DAÏ

DAÏ is a Canadian-born multidisciplinary artist of Grenadian descent whose creative practice spans more than three decades. Working across textile (including Ankara – African wax-print), acrylic, vinyl, and mixed media (including Washi - traditional, handcrafted Japanese paper), she creates deeply personal and culturally resonant works that explore memory, identity, connection, ancestry, and the stories that shape who we become.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, and raised between Ontario and Saskatchewan, DAÏ's artistic perspective has been influenced by diverse landscapes, communities, and experiences. Her family roots trace back to Grenada, the Caribbean nation affectionately known as the "Isle of Spice". It’s a place whose warmth, resilience, colour, and storytelling traditions continue to inform her creative vision.

For DAÏ, art is both an act of remembrance and a form of conversation. Her work often explores the relationships between personal history and collective experience, weaving together fragments of memory, culture, language, and emotion into visual narratives that invite reflection and connection.
A lifelong maker, DAÏ has spent over 30 years developing a distinctive artistic voice through visual expression. Her mixed-media works frequently combine texture, colour, pattern, and found materials, creating layered compositions that reflect the complexity of human experience. Drawing inspiration from family, community, heritage, and everyday life, her pieces serve as both personal archives and shared spaces for dialogue.
Whether through poetry, paint, fabric, or mixed media, DAÏ's work is grounded in a belief that stories matter. Her artistic practice seeks to honour the voices, histories, and experiences that connect us across generations and communities, creating spaces where memory can be preserved, identity celebrated, and humanity recognized.
For DAÏ, every piece tells a story, and every story leaves an imprint.

The Intention Planted Within

If only we could go back in time. Dictate how things should go.
Change the story into what we want. Plant a seed for love to grow.

And when we reach where we are now, “that” love would be so tall.
We would pick the fruit and be at peace. We would share that fruit with all.

We would not have to suffer, we would not have to break.
We would know the strength of power. Would know all the things at stake.

We would fight against injustice and protect those we know are weak.
We would get back up when we’re knocked down, and use that strength to speak.

We would start a healing process, when met with loss and pain.
We would know that we are resilient. Then we would plant a seed again.

As we look into the mirror, and think of what could be.
Or think of what we’d like to change, or leave with what we see.

Remember to see the warrior, that have done all the things above.
You’ve planted a field throughout your life, filled with passion, care and love.

Sincerely, your sister in resiliency.
